after several days of going to work driving the eml light appears on the dash and the engine hunts from idle to 1500 and back continuously when stationary. the scanner produces no tfcs on eobd and one un-documented code on the bmw list. with the code cancelled the light is out and the hunting has gone but the engine is at a slightly low idle and a bit rough. a few days later there will be a repeat. immediate pre history: the car arrived at the w/s running on three cylinders, all four ign coils were changed [coil type known to give trouble] and one spark plug also changed. for information the n42 engine is "valvetronic" so any ideas would be most welcome by email or telephone. tel: 01379 871034
