Hi Dan,
The dissy on this if I am not mistaken is like a lot of Japanese vehicles with integral cam/tdc/rpm sensors and coil,although Toyotas have an external amp/igniter. The wires you speak of sound like ignition feed to coil and coil neg (switched by amp)
If so, sounds to me like you have a coil fault.
you should have another plug on dissy with sensor outputs to ECU and the amp feed from the coil.
