VW Golf GTi 1997 - Code, cam sensor implausable signal, goes into limp mode # Archived Message

This vehicle on starting brings a cam sensor signal impluasable signal code on. The engine goes into limp home and will not rev over 4500. Checked archives and tried the cam sensor phasing, my multiscan would not show me the live data for cam sensor, it aint as good as I thought it would be.
I scoped the cam sensor, it was good but I changed the dizzy anyway.
I have a broken second scope lead so could not check cam/crank phase on scope.
I checked the engine timing, with the camshaft lined up the timing mark on the gearbox is inline with mark.
The timing belt is not too loose.
If I clear the code for cam sensor signal the vehicle will rev up and red line easily. Soon as I stop and restart the cam sensor fault re-appears.
I bumped started it to eliminate the starter motor interference.
I am at a loss now.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    James
