    Hi Andrew,

That sounds very like a few that I had in the past. Bastard jobs.

You didn’t post a lot of detail but I assume you have checked fuel pressure.
A bad injector could cause it too.
The MAF’s on these will do this too if slightly out of spec.
Bad ECU earths can cause all kinds of strange faults.
CTS signals can be wrong and difficult to test but are so cheap I would suggest fitting one anyway.

One problem that you are facing is that the fuel trims are reaching their stop very quickly. So quick that you don’t have much time to see what is happening. I found with these that if you try at different engine speeds you will find a speed where the ECU is just managing to control the fueling (maybe 20% trim) so keeping it in closed loop longer. That at least gives you a chance to see what is happening.

I know you said it is low mileage etc but is the history known? Could it have more miles than you think?

One of the ones I had with symptoms like this had the wrong engine fitted. Check the engine code (read from the block) against the VIN. Whoever fitted the engine to mine used the old engines belt cover so the engine code matched up but the block had a different code.
It is also worth checking the part numbers of the MAF, T/Body and ECU against the VIN.

If you are going to really get into this you will need to check the mechanical integrity of the engine. Compression, leak off, cam timing and cam/crank keyways.

From what you have posted I don’t see any reason to try an ECU on it unless you have one handy.

    HTH

    Alan
