VW golf temp fault DTC 16500 Archived Message

Hi all, struggling with this one at the moment.

    2000 VW golf 1.6 auto.
    Vin no: WVWZZZIJZ1W359274.
    Engine no: AVU.
    Engine management type: Simos 3.3

The cars symptoms: temp gauge drops and the coolant fan runs even when the has been switched off and locked it runs for at lest 10 minutes. One DTC 16500 Engine coolant temperature circuit -G62 NOT REASONABLE SIGNAL. The customer complains the heater is not blowing hot but I think this is because the radiator fan is running all the time.
Diagnostic work done: Engine coolant sensor scoped ok but fit new OE sensor just incase of an intermittent fault. Checked the plug to the sensor witch was good and tested the continuity between pin 3 and 4 of the plug to pin 83 and 104 of the ECU that was ok.
Wired a new earth to pin 2 of the coolant sensor and clear the fault and the fan stops running and the car runs fine for about 4 days. I have also carried out a basic coolant check and the water pump is circulating the coolant correctly and it is not overheating.
The cars back in next Thursday and Friday so I think my next step is to check the instrument and aircon/coolant fan module for DTCs and I may have to remove the instilment panel to check the wire from the coolant sensor to pin A8. I may have a CAN fault? Any input would appreciated, Best regards, Martin.
