Mitsubishi Shogun '98 3.0- sluggish and lean Archived Message

    Hi all,
Was asked to look at this. Occassionally will perform OK but generally sluggish, and lean (plugs almost white). They've told me they've dismantled and cleaned EGR valve, and taken apart inlet manifold and replaced leaking gaskets!

Don't have code reading capability so told garage could do some generic checks on it, which they accepted. O2 sensor was faulty, going -ve when it felt like it, and barely switching, so suggested they change it with one from dealer. TPS output smooth with no dropouts, but 4 wire device. Does anyone know what the 4th wire's for? It was also slightly lose for adjustment. Can I use the generic adjustment for this i.e. clean throttle body, and back of valve stop 1/2 turn from binding, and set position for voltage of, say, 0.8V? Also they've replaced airflow meter twice with 2nd hand units and left the best of the 3 in there. Does anyone know a way of verifying operation of this, it seems to have a frequency modulated output, perhaps a bit like the Ford MAPs from mid to late 90s. Also anyone know the range of the CTS, particularily when hot.

The garage has replaced the O2 sensor and say it is better, but far from best!

Last of all can anyone point me in the direction of any known problems that cause this, or does anyone have ECU pin data for this, or anything else of help. Thankyou!
    Regards,
    Nick Bell
