Hi Nick, the high pressure pump is driven by the end of the camshaft bulkhead end & as i understand it the oil seal leaks. I pressume this must be at the low pressure side of the high preesure pump, agian if that makes sense.Unfortantly had one of those days today & i did not get round to find the TSB.I did do some thinking after i posted & jogged my memory, oil leaking into the petrol some how creates small black partical/bits into the fuel & i think it that blocks that gause in the pump, removal the low pressure pump from the boot and you can see these partical in the tank, also there was update on the rail changing from aluminum to stainless steel. The problem i had was nearly the same mine had a brand new engine from audi with new high pressue pump, reg & sensor.Unfortantly this did end back at the dealers which they fitted another HP pump & sensor & charged £1200 for the pleasure.Looking back in hind sight i should of changed the rail pressure sensor myself as that what i suspected even though it was new part i could not prove it i like to prove thing before fitting parts.I guess the dealers put a second new pump on first & this did not work so the put rail pressure sensor which then fixxed the problem.I did scope the rail
pressue sensor before & after the dealers. The rail pressure sensor was dropping out when the injectors was opening. After more investigation we thought that the sensor was seeing complete loss of pressure in the rail, may this what is ment by quality of fuel? or was it the wrong sensor alu type insead of stainless steal. When i did see the car agin afterward there was no dropping out at all so this must be the key to HIGH pressure code sorry for the rambaling on this might help but i am sure there is someone else could explain better than me i dont do many VAG Darren.
