    Thanks for your input Alan.
    The 'unknown fault' shown by KTS was recognised by Snap-on Solus (another one ine the eye for Bosch...again!!). The code is for 'Alternator communication'. I took the Beemer for a road test and noticed drops in battery voltage on live data (Graph). I also noticed that, when the vehicle is started up the the voltage sometimes goes straight up to 14.5v; sometimes takes a few seconds before it starts to climb up and sometimes stays at the nominal voltage indefinitely until the engine is revved. The alternator was fitted 15 Months ago by the BMW Dealer so the customer is returning to them in the hope of a 'goodwill' repair. I may be wrong but I suspect the other codes have been flagged because of the unstable voltage reading. It would explain the intermittant nature of the problem.

    Will post the outcome when I hear from the customer.
