Been back to the mini tonight. Earth tested all earth inputs into the ecu, and all are showing ok, no voltage drop at all. The problem lies on the earth output side, i.e Neg to crank and cam sensor; these both measured around 9v wit ignition on and ecu connected.
I bridged the earth inputs on the ecu to the earth outputs and vehicle started first turn of the key.
Looks like the ECU is at fault with the earth connection breaking down internally. I had a simular fault on a Rover once that had had jump leads put on the wrong way around.
Ran vehicle with scanner on for a good half hour and no fault codes came up. Only fault i have is that the c/fan is running all the time, but this is a seperate fault. I need to locate the c/fan control relay/module as i'm pretty sure the fault will lie there.
