    bmw 518 6 cyl auto 1998 rough running at times Archived Message

    Hope someone can help and give me advice. When engine play's up it will not go over 2500 revs and sounds just like a plug or coil breaking down under load. Let it tick over runs smooth. Yellow triangle light and mil comes on. Using solus I get 00170 and p0601 codes. Will not erase the first code. At the same time as the fault appears there are two codes from the abs. 112 Can open circuit to instrument panel and 76 open circuit to DME. When it is running ok all codes can be erased but will ALL come back when the fault develops. I think the solus is giving me false readings in data as the o2 sensor is moving from .3 to 3 with the graphing line looking good. Also when running well the air flow (KG/h) is 0.0 but when running rough it is 2.2. Also solus read intake temp as 74. Is this a fly by wire? reason being when I go under the inlet manifold and flick the throttle spindle this makes the engine run OK 90% of the time. Sorry for long post but this job doing my head in.
