    Apart from cost it would seem that if they actually wanted the ECU to confirm injector pintle movement they would incorporate a needle lift sensor (on each injector) as the older systems had? It seems they regard crankshaft acceleration as sufficient proof to the injector actually working. This along side the current required to actually operate the "fuel supply" solenoid for want of a better description seems to be ample proof of correct functioning?
