Hi. How can companies keep getting away with selling unreliable products, That's how they started with dodgy points, condensers, coils etc. That was one of the things that I noticed when I Started with Lucas Service in 1975, that we were doing lots of work replacing faulty new ignition components that people had fitted to try and cure a fault with their vehicle, After fitting a faulty part, they then went on to replace everything else before bringing the car in to us for a proper test, I remember the Foreman testing a New Intermotor coil that a customer had brought in and he thought that it was ok as the spark was jumping about half an inch and looked like a good strong spark, We then compared it to a new Lucas coil and the spark would jump 2" plus. My mate fitted 3 condensors to his Chevette and it still wouldn't go, I went with a lucas one and it started straight up and never missed a beat. That Company is still going strong and Lucas have gone, ( possibly due to bad management and sell outs etc). But it goes to show, if you sell something cheap whether it's crap or not, people will buy it, if it seems expensive, they will shop around and try to get it cheaper. We all know that if you fit cheap faulty goods it will cost you a lot more at the end of the day, but the customer doesn't see that, he just wants it cheap, ( untill the cheap part that you supplied to him goes wrong and them it's all your fault).
