Has this car got an Iac Valve?
what colour was old coolant temp sensor?
If it has Iac valve the coolant temp sensor should be Black, if a blue one has been fitted this will give these symtoms as they are configured differently.
Black sensor has two seperate resistance elements grounded to the sensor body for LE2 ecu (one pin of sensor to earth) & iac control ecu (other pin of sensor to earth).
Blue sensor has only resistive one element that is for fuel ecu ( supply on 1 pin & earth return on other pin).
I think the black senor may no longer be available from vauxhall.hth Lance
