Thanks to all for their input and correct assumptions. I will come clean on this one Mot failure Emissions through the roof + well ruined cat. Replaced cat and lambda sensor. sensor picked up on the way out and ruined the threads had to take the manifold off and rethread the hole. very strange the opening into the manifold was restricted by metal looks like poor manufacture. Cleaned out with 5/8" drill fitted the new sensor. Emissions spot on. as Sean says fault clears ign on eng off. Thanks again Iain Ps the lambda sensor was switching very slow maybe the restriction was the original cause.
