Mini Cooper S (supercharged) 2003 1600cc - Fault code P1688 Electronic Trottle System #

Hi

Has any one come across this P code, P1688 "Electronic Throttle System, ETS, monitor level 2/3 - MAF Calculation" ??

Does not seem to have a MAF sensor though??

Any Ideas?

Sounds like a crap description of the code by the scanner.

Any symptoms?

Clean the t/body, clear adaptions if you can and road test. It may need an engine loom.

Hi Alan,

Autodiagnose was used to pick up the code, it was exactly the same description on the A/D as in Autodata,

I have already cleaned out the throttle body on saturday, the car came back this morning, the "lad" who owns it said it only occurs over 5000 rpm! I checked the freeze frame data and in fact the fault was logged at 5548 rpm around 40 50 mph at 90oC.

Why do you think it needs an engine loom?

I guessed it "may" need an engine loom because it is common for t/body codes to be caused by loom faults on these.
I asked were there any symptoms for the same reason I said it "may" need a loom, because I am not physcic

"it" as you put it Alan, is the E/M light coming on, he said there are no running problems at all, just the light coming on at high revs??

I have driven it and it drives perfect, but I intend not to thrash it over 5000 rpm!!

sound like we have the problem , vehicle drives fine until you start using the revs and engine light comes on at 5600rpm and engine cut off power, we code read & code p1688 electronic throttle system , ets monitor 2/3 maf calculation.suspect throttle body ?. can you let us know what was the cause of the problem.

Hello David,
the car above ended up in my workshop due to the other garage being unable to diagnose the fault. It was fixed by replacing the supercharger by-pass valve and reflashing the ecu.There is no Maf on this vehicle it is a calculated value.

Autologic tells me to renew control unit...

Hello Group,

I have had this problem before setting only at high revs. It was caused by the bottom pulley moving on its rubber insert.This in-turn causes the supercharger to turn slower and upsets the "calculated maf value"

Mark the bottom pulley on both sections with a marker pen, then drive it over 5000rpm a few times , come back and see if the marks are still in line.

Please post the results and fix for the archives.
