Jaguar X Type 2.5 2001 - Maximum fuel adaption fault #

Is there an easy way of testing fuel flow on these returnless systems?

I keep getting fuel adaptions error on both banks, and after chasing small faults with leaks and maf i still get the same fault coming back, must be fuel supply problem, live data shows correct pressure but unable to test flow.

Hi Chris
Have you changed spark plugs. We re new plugs first which normaly fixes all kinds of faults.

Chris. About the only way you can accurately flow test this system is with a flow meter inline. Once you disconnect the hose from the inlet manifold you reduce the "system load ie. FPR won't be controlling.

See if you can borrow a CODA Fuel System Analysis kit. It has a flowgauge that connects in series with the fuel line.

Another way I have measured flow on returnless systems is using an adjustable FPR. I have measured pressures and set scale marking on the adjusting screw. Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel rail and attach the adjustable FPR. Set it to just under the system fuel pressure ie. if system fuel pressure is 250 kPa, set the adjustable FPR to 225 kPa. Run the pump and measure the output on the adjustable FPR's return/output line.

Its not perfect but its close.

Generally, internal pumps (if roller cell) expect a flow of 1.5 plus litres/minute.

If internal "fluid friction" or gear pumps expect a flow of 0.85 plus litres/minute

Hi Chris, I had one last week fuel trim out of range. At first smoke test found nothing. Then clamped off servo hose and found fuel trim returned to normal. smoke test again this time on servo side of n/r valve, lead to vac pipe for headlight unit under battery box.

I have coda but probably didn't put much thought into it.

Are you saying, if I plumb the coda in and disconect the fuel pipe from the rail, I can simulate the pressure with some kind of regulator or clamp the pipe, run the pump and measure flow while it flows into a container.

I've had it on the dyno with coda plumb in near the fuel filter this morning, I ran it up to 100mph, full load, I was thinking if the injectors are more or less fully open at this point I should see flow on the coda, But i didn't, pressure was fine but flow was zero. Would this be a wrong method of testing?

Hi Chris.

If the Coda was in series with the fuel filter ie. in series with the pump, filter and fuel rail then its in the right place with no need for extras.

This should show flow at all times ie. idle to full throttle. If there is no flow then there is a flow problem ie pump, regulator in tank open etc.
