Hi All,
Asked to attend this car because EML, EPC and service light on. This has been the case for about 8 months and drives well. Only perceived problem is fuel consumption which according to on board computer and rough calculations is working out at about 26 - 30 MPG on long runs. Car is not being thrashed. All the usual checks including emissions provide nothing unusual except fault code PO601 (Internal Control Module Memory - Checksum error). All three warning lights clear down but EPC light and fault code re-appear when vehicle is re-started. I have asked the customer to ignore computer for fuel consumption and to work it out in the traditional manner which he will do and get back to me in a few days. I suspect a re-flash is required. Would be grateful for any inputs.
I believe your instinct is correct and that a software update is required. We've had the same issue on an Octavia RS and a Golf GTI recently and both were resolved with an update. Check it out with an Audi dealer.
Only query I would have is has been been remapped/chipped as P0601 can sometimes follow on from that.
Funny you said that because I was there to re-map it to help cure the fuel consumption problem but I wanted to get rid of the EML first. My re-mapping gear was locked out which some times happen when some-one gets there first. Suspect it has been poorly re-mapped - hence fuel consumtion problem. He is off to Audi dealer to get it sorted and then I will be back there to do my bit. Hope EML doesn't come back on when I've done!
