Mercedes Benz 240 V6 2.8 1999 - Battery changed, now in critical limp mode #

Engine Code or Type *: v6 2.8

Hi Guy's
This is a nightmear! Car dropped off to us following a simple battery change by customer.Upon start up the engine revs to 2k rpm and then settles to 1200 rpm and then is stuck in Critical limp(will not rev and will not drive more than 15-20 mph) The ASR light is displayed and there is no E/M light on? Interrogate ASR control module and it says fault with E/M system. Interrogate E/M ecu to find one perminent fault code. Throttle Position Sensor (thats it??)Checked all lve data from sensor ok?replaced sensor(bolted to o/s strut mount point) and fault still present?? Tried all the normal stuff i.e disconnecting battery etc. Fault code will extinguish with scanner but will return upon next start up. Please tell me one of you have come across this
Already down 125 for throttle sensor!!

To be honest this sounds more like a scanner problem than anything else. Either you have misread the fault code description or the scanner has given it incorrectly.

Did you try resetting the throttle adaptions? I have an idea that some aftermarket scan tools will not do this but maybe yours does?

Hi, I agreed but I have interrogated with solus pro/bosh/and autodiagnose!! so fault code deff right one

Hi John,

Did you reset the throttle adaptions? (As I said above I am not sure the tools you mentioned can do this)

What is the code? and what is the description of the code from the scan tools?

First you need a code, then you need to know the code setting criteria, then you have a direction for a diagnonis.

btw there a few lads here who can check code descriptions but they would need the vin also.

Does the owner have the handbook ? could the critical light (orange triangle ?) be on due to snow/ice setting.
Or maybe i,m talking B**locks AGAIN.

Hi

I had a merc this week same year, owner fitted battery and ABS /ESP lights came on, that was steering angle sensor needed calibrating,.

Not sure relevant to yours but worth a
thought.

Also put engine light on with multiple mis fire codes, what was due to MAF poor and lost adaptions .

Sounds like MERCS are a problem for batt changes
