Ford Focus 1.6 2001 - Intermittent non start, non start when mileometer reads ----. #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Code or Type *: 1.6

According to the customer the vehicle intermittently does not start and when it occurs and mileometer reads ------ (the fuel gauge etc work ok) as soon as the mileage comes back the vehicle starts. It has not done this for me and there are no fault codes in the engine or immob systems. Wondered if anyone had come across the same fault.

i agree cluster fault . have changed a few of these for this fault

Yes i have had problems but never causing non starting and according to Ford they havent either. Did any of yours cause non starting?

Not sure what your fault is Phil but the instrument cluster is not fitted with immobiliser like VAG so would not cause no start. If you remove cluster completely car still runs. hth brian

Thanks for that Brian. Its one of those that wont do it for me so i am stuck at the mo. I will persist tho.

I'm sure there's something in the archives re: starting issues and dashes on these, but I can't be bothered to search for them!

Clean up the earths below the battery, including the metal bodywork, strip it back to bare metal, then repaint over the top, after bolting the earth down.

Thanks Tony. I did try the archives but couldnt find anything. I will check the earths.
