Vauxhall Vectra 1.6 Z16XE 2001 - ECU Fault? codes P0105, P1405 & P0340 - Fixed #

Engine Code or Type *: Z16XE
( Optional ) Scanner used: ACR4 G2

Evening All,

This vehicle drives ok but will not rev above 3000 rpm. Feels like a rev limiter but am assuming it is in LOS mode. Fault codes present are: PO 0105, PO1405 and PO 0340. These refer to camshaft sensor, MAP sensor and EGR valve. They all clear down but re-appear immediately. The service light illuminates prior to the EML and then goes out.

The vehicle had a new ECU fitted about 1 year ago but not by Vauxhall. The fitting garage is not interested in dealing with it. Customer took it to main dealers when the problem manifested itself about 3 months ago and they arrived at the same codes as me (£95 diagnosis fee ) and replaced Camshaft sensor. They then diagnosed a faulty ECU. I have relaced EGR and MAP sensor (2nd hand from stock) and fault is still there.

Before I send the ECU for testing/repair has anyone any thoughts on this. Would appreciate recommendations for reputable companies who can repair this ECU. I do not have the gear to code a new ECU if it comes to that.

PS: Can't remember the ECU type but it is affixed to the end of the engine and MAP sensor is on the inlet manifold.

Thank you for that Sean. No the cam timing has not been checked. I did wonder about that because it would bring up the cam and map faults. Not sure if it would bring up the EGR fault though. I have done a vacuum check which was OK and the 4 gas readings are spot on. Not driven the car but am assured it goes ok. Would have thought my checks would have eliminated cam timing error, unless you or someone else can say otherwise.......

otherwise.......The cam timing has now been checked and the belt is loose. When the tension is taken up the cam timing is one notch out. I am hoping the customer does the right thing and has the belt replaced with the relevant tensioners etc. Good call Sean and thanks for your advice.

Evening all,

Spoke too soon on this one. Cambelt kit fitted and the fault is still there. Pinned out ECU and no voltage to CAM and MAP sensor. Will speak to Injection Correction tomorrow who supplied ECU 7 months ago.

ECU sent back to whence it came and deemed faulty. New ECU cured the problem.
