Honda Civic 1.6 2001 - Cut out on road, will not restart #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Code or CC *: D16V1/1600cc
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Bosch KTS670/Carman scanner.

Hi Guys,
Vehicle recovered yesterday after cutting out on dual carrigeway,vehicle was driving ok then gradually lost power,vehicle refused to restart,AA recovered to us explaining there was a fuel supply problem.
Checked for faults via the KTS an Carman,no faults recorded.checked fuel pump,ignition on-priming,cranking -supplying,injectors appear to be operating as spark plugs are getting wet with continual cranking, checked for spark-ok (coil on plug system),checked immobiliser operation which appears ok.
When cranking over initially the starter locks up for a split second then winds over,the engine attempts to start,then cuts out after a second.
Anyone seen these symptoms before that could shed some light?

Might be worth trying for an exhaust(ie catalyst) blockage, if you can remove the lambda sensor to give the gases another exit then try starting, Jim.

Based on your description I would look at Crankshaft/camshaft timing injection phase problem If you have spark and plugs are wet I guess Its a phase issue with fuel timing HTH Kevin

*Update*
Thanks for the suggestions guys,i forgot to mention that i already dropped the front pipe down to check for blockage,no problems there.

Valve timing will be my next port of call,the car had a new belt fitted in August last year but not by us though,need to check it, just to rule it out.

As Kevin suggests, cam/crank sync. I have had this engine with worn crank sprocket around woodruff key. It may be necessary to remove crank pulley to check properly. Brian

*UPDATE*

Hi,
Removed timing covers today to find the tensioning spring from the belt tensioner caught in the timing belt,the lug on the tensioner has broken,although the tensioner is still fixed in it original position,the belt is very slack,going to put a new belt kit on and see where we are!
