Jaguar XJ8 3.2 2000 - Cuts out when cruising on motorway - Fixed #

this is an itermittent fault that is getting worse the customer drives down the motorway the engine justs cuts out when he is cruising,he pulls over turns off and on and the engine re-starts it sometimes runs rough like a multiple misfire but he can ride through this i have been told that the fault is the throttle body ,I have spoken to BBA RE-MAN and they say that they have wiring faults on the plugs that go to the throttle body,I have spoken to my jag agents who have been very helpful and they say there is a wiring kit available before i order this has anyone come across this problem thanks john

Hi, we had an earlier one that would sometimes just cut out in fast lane. I fitted new throttle body & it cured it,seem to think Jag were covering a lot of cost,local dealer wanted 850 quid for new one but another dealer 100 miles away who I'd never dealt with before supplied one for 180 quid so don't know what all that was about but it fixed it. Don't know about wiring kit seem to remember just fitting new body,maybe earlier ones needed whole throttle body & later ones just need a wiring/connector mod???

I would look at the fuel tank to see if you have any water in it. Have had some XJ and damiler 6 & V12's in with running ok then cutting out or misfires always been water in fuel tank. Normally caused by drain hole blocked in fuel filler cap area. Even good old aston martins DBs suffer with this also.Had one with intermittent rough running then would be ok, that was water in tank. Check for water ingress on filler kneck inside cap area. HTH Tony

Clean out the throttle body, these jags suffer from dirty throttle body big time!!

Yes , clean the throttle body. The last one i did was the supercharged 3.2 which was doing the same on cruise control. Been fine since. HTH

FIXED

SORRY I TOOK SO LONG TO REPLY JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE.I PURCHASED A S/HAND THROTTLE BODY OFF EBAY THE CAR HAS NEVER RUN BETTER
