VW Lupo 1.4 16v 2000 - EPC light on, code 17961, P1553 - Fixed #

( Optional ) Scanner Used: snap-on / kts

HI GUYS I HAVE A FAULT CODE I HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH BUT FIRST BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF FAULT START VEHICLE AND REV UP EPC LIGHT COMES ON AND FAULT CODE 17961 BAROMETRIC/MANIFOLD PRESSURE SIGNALS IMPLAUSIBLE CORRELATION P1553 INTERMITTENT WHEN I HAVE HAD EPC LIGHT ON IN THE PAST IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN BRAKE LIGHTS ,THE CAR IS RUNNING OK BUT A BIT HESITANT WHEN YOU REV IT I THOUGHT IT MAYBE THE ACC PEDAL LIKE THE CLIO FAULT BUT VW TELL ME ITS A NORMAL PEDAL HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP CHEERS JOHN

You need to do a bit more checking.

Start with vacuum gauge on inlet and compare with live data and check that it is normal.

Please turn capital locks, considered as shouting on the forum.

The more info you give and checks you carry out before posting will reflect in replies you gets and also worth a forum search

As said above, A bit more checking and info required. But I've had trouble with some 1.4 VAG's giving and implausible manifold pressure fault. The EGR pipe under the inlet manifold was partially blocked. Havn't seen one for a while now, Cant remember the specifics or what engine codes they were, I'll see if I can dig out the job cards tomorrow.

thanks steve i have checked quite alot of things manifold vac not one i did not want to bore everyone with a long story i just wondered if anyone had come across the fault code i would be grateful if you could check your job cards john.ps is this ok aidan !!!

Hi John

So what are the vacuum readings live & real ? If low check the normal things, air leaks, cam timing, compressions etc

Also as I said try a forum search, there are several threads with that fault code problem.

WE don't mind being bored, if we know what has already been eliminated.

Hi John
If i remember right i had a seat leon 1.6 coming up with the 17961 fault code after replacing the throttle body. I didnt perform the basic setting and it kept flagging that fault, just a thought.

Hi Guys

one of the cambelt rollers had shed its plastic and the belt had jumped the manifold pressure before and after was not a lot diffrent but obviously enough to bring the epc light on
