Rolls Royce Musanne V8 1982 (Non Turbo) - Auto choke question #

Year of Manufacture *: 1982
Engine Code or CC *: V8

Does anybody have any info on the operation of the aurtochoke on these. It appears to be an exhaust gas operated mechinisim.

The problem is that the idle is "a little wooly" I am suspecting needle valve issues (Remember those? ) but would like to check out the autochoke aswell.

Hi Paul,

Not been to many Rollers but one had SU's and an AED for auto-choke. Is this the same?

This does not have the SU AED (Like the Jag XJ6 Type)

There is some sort of mechinisim that is fed directly by a small pipe channeling exhaust gas. I am guessing that it uses the heat build up to switch the autochole off.

(I think it is just me, I get to see the strangest vehicles sometimes!)

At work i have a Rolls-Royce Shadow 2 workshop CD set, so if you need i can have a look at the fuel system section and print/email the sections over or even fax them if you want.

I think this will be the same model as the Shadow 2 but slightly later. Has yours got twin SU's or mechanical injection.

But I just wonder why, with all that space to play with, Rolls Royce made the damn things so hard to get at!

I've got a Shadow 2 at work now and need t remove the o/s carb due to the float bowl leaking, doesn't look easy to remove the lower flange bolts.
