Hi all,
Looking for a short cut on this one if possible.
Customer complains it misfires, sometimes badly and sometimes it runs perfect. He says its worse when cold.
Plugged in with DEC and got a code for canister purge valve circuit, started car, ran perfect, code would not clear but with engine stopped it cleared. Restarted, all live data looked ok, no codes and running well.
Got the customer to bring me for a drive and it acted up. It was one severe hesitation rather than a misfire and DEC dropped comms at the same time. This happened twice. Following this I had two codes, canister purge valve again and knock sensor circuit.
Thinking it would be a wiring problem I went at a wiggle test with the engine running. Pulling the loom that runs across the back of the engine it cut out. I tried a second time to narrow it down and it cut again but this time it failed to restart. It now had codes for all four injector circuits. A bit more wiggling got it running again and now it won’t fail.
There is no security cover on the ECU and no visible damage to the loom at that point.
It seems to be a loom problem, but what part of the loom gives trouble on these?
Went at this and pulled the loom up to check it. First thing I noticed was an earth eyelet unattached. It runs with an earth on this. Its amazing that it ran at all. The earth must have been just resting against the block.
