Ford Focus ST 2.0 2002 - Code P1518 intake manifold runner stuck open - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2002
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0L zetec-st
( Optional) Fault Codes: P1518

Basically, ECU light on, fault code P1518-intake manifold runner control stuck open. Checked physical operation and seems free and you can see it all moving inside, actuator test instructs and causes movement ok.

Not sure what else to check, theres not a lot to the system really. Anyone else had this problem?

Spot on guys, thanks. Thats the kind of info i like, straight to the technical point with no silly comments like some people leave on here, you've restored my faith in this site.

Took the unit off last night, took it home, changed part, refitted this morning and took it for a nice little drive, all ok. Very easy fix.

There is a postage charge for the part though, and you have to order a min of 5 of the parts. RS are good for electronic components though, i used to use them when i was in electronic engineering, before i turned to cars.

Nice one Ian,
Surprised there was a postage charge, they recently promised that internet orders would be posted FOC no matter how small, if you ordered on the phone I don't think that applies. Yes the min order quantity is a pain but you have four in stock for the next time!

Hi all. This fault has come back again. It fixed it for a few hundred miles which for the customer was a few weeks, now same thing again. Is there something else causing this part to fail? Is replacing the whole unit the cure? Or do i send it in to fords?

Hi Ian,

I had the same fault a few weeks ago, same model, same year.

I never even considered repairing the unit..

Replaced the control runner module, i think it was about £180??

Hello Ian, we have done a few using this method. and if memory serves me right, they have all come back. We now fit new and a definate Fix.
