Ford Mondeo 2.0 Duratec 2004 - Large injection duration (waveform) - Fixed #

Hi

This car is hard to start. The customer says that it has already been to Ford who have put new plugs in it and serviced it.

The customer said that he flattened the battery twice trying to start it to get it to the garage it is at now.

Garage tried a new battery but it still is very difficult to start.

When I looked at it today it was a non start from cold, no DTCs,live readings ok, it has spark.

Checked the cam and crank trace in Pico and it looked ok [I will come back to this]

I checked the injection duration and it is anywhere between 30ms and 75ms!

The only time I have come across this before is when the cam timming has been out, but comparing this cam-crank waveform against a known good [running] the placing looks good [however, the garage is checking the cam timming]

Can anyone tell me what the cranking voltage for the cam sensor is. I am thinking that a low voltage may give the results above.

Can't help with Cam sensor voltage, but would ask if fuel quality & pressure has been checked.

Morning Simon,

How does this thing go during warm-up once it has started. Any running problems when hot? Exhaust emissions might give a hint if there is a problem with timing etc or general over-fuelling. Like to see the big picture.

Hi

Once it eventually starts, it runs poor until it is warm and then generally appears to run OK. I have only had limited access to the car at this point.

I have checked fuel pressure, it is Ok. However, regardless of fuel pressure the injection duration seem just a bit execive to me!

I did not have the chance to recheck the duration while hot as the customer said as it was running she needed it!

I will getr another look over the next couple of days.

Last time I saw this was many years ago on a 2.9 V6 Granada and turned out to be the ECU.

Hi,
What are the fuel trim readings?this will give you a good indication of what's going on in the system.
