Ford Ka 1.3 2003 - Fault code P0132 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Size and Code *: 1.3
( Optional ) ECU Type: sim 21
( Optional ) Scanner Used: kts 520
( Optional) Fault Codes: P0132

Car running OK mil light on fault code logged P0132 almost straight away car is started and will clear until next cold start up. Last garage fitted new o2 sensor working OK and heater system powered up and working On scoping out the sensor did the earth has well and noticed the earth is a mirror image of the o2 ref voltage My question is this correct never seen this before I am thinking is the poor earth causing the high voltage and setting the fault code

Hi Peter,

Fault Code PO 132 (MAF) for those who are wondering. Do not fully understand your question but you should have 4 wires on the O2 sensor as follows:

2 will be earths therefore >0.25v
1 Heater wire therefore battery voltage
1 Signal wire at 0.2 - 0.8v approx at 1 htz at idle (approx)

So...is the earth wire actually switching as you suggest? Nice to 4 gas emissions at idle and fast idle...

Hi Pete, I have P0132 Ford O2 Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 1) where is the MAF code coming from?

Hi pete the definition i have of Po132 is O2 sensor circuit high voltage sorry if i did not make my self clear earth for the heater ok its the earth for the o2 sensor grey wire that is my area of concern The exhaust gases are perfect

Evening Peter,

If the earth wire is fluctuating as you say, try plumbing in another earth wire direct to the battery earth and see what happens...

Hi Peter, if the sensor earth wire is your concern then does it not make sense to find a wiring diagram and follow the earth path? HTH

Hi all,
Not sure if this is relevant but I seem to remember that certain aftermarket O2S needed an additional earth when fitted to certain Fords. I may be talking rubbish so feel free to put me right.

Yesterday cut the earth wire and put straight to battery stopped the switching on the earth and cleaned up the signal on the output of the o2 sensor. The fault code set its self on a cold start the ref out of o2 sensor is 1.2volts for a split second the ok Started this morning all good needs more testing

Hi Peter,
Going from memory, I believe that many ECUs hold the lambda sensor earth slightly above true ground as a means of detecting shorts to ground on this wire. I am not sure if Ford use this technique or not. It is also almost a certainty that the lambda sensor earth comes via the ECU for the purposes of accuracy of measurement and noise rejection. I would check the earth at the ECU (PCM I suppose as it's a Ford, but old habits die hard.) If it is not a broken wire it is possible that the earth track in the ECU has blown up due to a fault current overloading it or water ingress into the ECU plug.
