Hi All, Unfortunately I am not the first to get under the bonnet of this! Codes present:- P0553 Power steering pressure sensor P1477 Variable intake butterfly valve elctrical fault P1472 Variable intake butterfly valve always open P0172 Fuelling bank 1 (odd bank) rich limit. When cleared P0553 and P1477 returned. After a roadtest the P0172 is recorded as a pending code. At idle:LTFT B1 is-19.5% and B2 is 4.7% Over 2000 rpm B1 is -10.2% and B2 is -0.8. At idle Bank 1 is pretty consistent at around -20% and at any speed over 2000rpm is -10%. So I can see why the P0172 is set. The vehicle has recently had the manifolds off for coolant leak repairs. I have not been able to exactly determine from the customer if the MIL was on before this or not. The Garage before me have fitted 2 new lambda sensors, one was supplied by them and the other by the customer, which was a fuelparts item. Personally I would have gone genuine (or as close as I could). Both sensors are switching although I have not scoped them yet. Checking archives I know the variable intake valves are a problem but unless one is breaking up I don't think it will cause fuel trim problems. I can see a connector for the Power steering pressure sensor on the loom but nothing on the pump, I am think maybe not fitted on this version. The problem seems additive in that it diminishes with increasing speed. I am think possibly leaking injector. If it was EVAP problems then surely it would affect both banks? Shaun.
Further to conversations with the owner, he feels he had the problem before the coolant leaks but also tells me that someone else did some work in that area who removed the bank 1 fuel rail and broke all three injectors! As a result the three injectors for bank 1 are new! Will talk to this person tomorrow who is a good friend and try to find out the truth. Also I find out the two lambda sensors that were changed were bank 2 and the downstream one so it is still possible that the lambda sensor is at fault, although I don't really think so. This one is going to be fun :-) Shaun
