Vauxhall Astra 1.8 18XE 2002 - Spanner light on, code P0340 cam position sensor #
Posted by Kevin Gregory on November 14, 2010, 9:33 am starting the car from cold brings on the spanner light and some times the mil light.if you drive the car it will rev to 4000 rpm after traveling for 5 to 10 minutes you can cancel the spanner light by turning ign of and restarting then the engine will rev normally.leave the car for a few hours to cool and it reverts back to spanner light on and wont rev over 4000.i am the 4th garage to look at this fault.the previous garage told me that when it came to them first the light would not cancel by cycling the ign.they checked crankshaft sprocket key and fitted new cambelt kit.they also fitted new cam sensor after that the light could be cancelled.i scoped cam and crank sensor while reving the car and noticed the light would come on at about 2500 revs and then stay on.i removed crank sensor and it was covered in steel filings so i changed the oil and crank sensor.the scope pattern did not alter at 2500 revs i will try to up load it.should the crank signal be in the middle of the cam signal red trace is cam blue trace is crank green is cam earthgregorys garage ltd cornwall
