VW 2.3 V5 AGZ 1998 - Overheating - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 1998
Engine Size and Code *: AGZ

I have a VW 2.3 V5 in

The heater matrix, thermostat housing and a plastic pipe joiner were all broken.
I have changed the matrix, joiner and housing.

I am still having overheating problems. I have left the filler cap off for all the air to come out, and turned the heaters on.

The heaters are blowing cold and the header bottle is overflowing.

I checked the thermostat which was bought new and It wasn't opening so i took it out to check water flow with out it. I can't seem to get the air out.

Any ideas please.

Is there a certain bleeding process for these cars.

Hi Martin

I think you will need to check the water pump, this may be one with the plastic impeller that is either spinning on the shaft or breaking up, either way its not able to pump hard enough, hence a cold matrix

just a follow up on this one .......

Did the replacement water pump have a metal impellar,a have noticed alot of oe quality pumps have metal impellars, where genuine can still have plastic .

Not good design plastic impellar pressed onto metal shafts .....expansion rates and all that.

Hi

In view of the other problems with this. sounds like it was frozen, may be a good thing it had a weak point i.e. plastic impeller
