Jaguar X Type 2.5 2001 - Code P1647 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Size and Code *: 2.5
( Optional ) Scanner Used: solus
( Optional) Fault Codes: P1647

I was wondering if anyone could tell me does this car use a titania or zirconia oxygen sensor I seem to be getting some very odd waveforms on my scope, the front bank in particular,pre cat sensor, a constant 4.5-5v, can the heater short to signal wire?
I already found pipe running from rocker cover to inlet collapsed and split but renewing this has made no difference.
EML remained out for only moments!

What colour wires have you got (sensor side of the connector)?

Phil,
Your fault code P1647 is defined as 'HO2S bank 2 control module open or shorted'.This is a confusing definition as the 'control module' means the sensor itself and I think it is a titania type toggling between 5v and 0v.On the X type the front bank is bank 2.I'd say you have a good case for renewing the front precat sensor,and genuine is not too expensive.

From J-TIS P1647 possible causes,

HO2 sensor 2/1 heater failure,

HO2 sensor 2/1 sensing circuit short circuit to ground, short circuit to high voltage, open circuit.

ECM Failure.

ps and i have checked and i have fitted 2 ECM to fix this !

Thanks, quick work!
Dave, wire colors, 2 black 1 blue I think the other is white!
Im going to test it from dead cold tommorow as these sensors seem to react quite differently before they warm up.
Will post again tommorow after more tests, cheers phrom fill.

Hi Phil
Check for contiuity across the 2 black heater circuit wires 9 times out of 10 there open circuit.

I would second Micks suggestion, resistance test heater circuit, seen quite a few with this fault.

Ah ha actualy did check this today, compared it to rear bank, sensor one, and spot on Mick!
Front sensor open circuit, are these the heater wires?
It also seems this is a zirconia sensor as when new one was fitted 0-800mv recorded switch.

One sensor going down seemed to really badly affect the other one, with a new one fitted the remaining ones activity was restored!
