Hi all,
First of all not sure if this is in right forum sorry.
Got this zafira automatic in today and when driving under slightly heavy acceleration the Traction Control light starts flashing and the vehicle looses power until vehicle slows down, light goes out and power is restored.(wheels not trying to spin at all)
I have checked both front wheel speed sensors on live data and both seem to be identical and no glitches (graphing)
I have scoped the sensors on the ramp and again both appear to be normal.
Just to add, this is the first time I have scoped the vauxhall ABS sensor that is housed within the wheel bearing, I have been told before and was under the impression that there was a slighy current put through the sensor, but the signal appeared to be a normal analog AC wave. Am I testing it correctly? I tested it same as inductive ABS sensor but with scope ground on chassis.
I have activated and tested all ABS and TC solenoids via modis and all seem to be functioning correctly. ie, brakes applied when activating TC solenoids with out brake pedal pressed and opposite with ABS solenoids activated.
The codes as above were cleared and have not returned after 5 test drives constantly re-enacting the fault (just so you know)
When in ABS system with scanner, TC +ABS lights illuminate on the dash and system is de activated the problem does not occur.
Also there is no deviations in wheel speed sensor output from one an other at higher speeds on live data and appear to be opperating normally even though it wont let me re-enact the problem.
Live data in engine ecu. Throttle flap closes (not fully) airflow and injection duration decreases engine speed drops So it seems traction control is doing its business.
I am going to scope the sensors tomorrow on the road with the problem occuring.
Any advice with this problem or tips on testing these sensors would be much appreciated as I think it may be sensor fault.
Thanks in advance
james
Re: vauxhall zafira (automatic) Traction Control fault
Worth checking all the tyres are matching/same size if not already done.
any recent work eg bearings fitted? you to Check the rear sensors to.
If you have access, i find a roller brake tester can be useful when scope testing sensors, as it give consistent speed for comparing sensor signals. ( obversely common sense safety precautions needed ) cheers Aidan
Re: vauxhall zafira (automatic) Traction Control fault
The vehicle had 195/60/15 tyres on the front and 195/65/15 on the rear.
I put two 195/65/15 tyres off another zafira on front and the problem went away.
The front wheels were doing 2 MPH faster than the rear when the TC light started flashing so this must be the allowed parameter.
I then proceeded to put the 65's on the front and the 60's on the rear so the rear wheels were spinning faster, just to test the system, and the ECU didn't seem to see this as a problem and the TC light stayed off.
I feel abit stupid for just concentrating on the front wheel speed, but what doesn't kill us makes us stronger HaHa
I have advised the customer to get the same size tyres fitted to all wheels even though problem has gone.
Thanks again for your reply Aidan
