Audi A4 2.0 AWA FSi 2003 - Misfire, codes P0300 & P0301 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Size and Code *: 2000 AWA
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Autodiagnos
( Optional) Fault Codes: P0300 P0301

Car came in with misfire and engine light on, the customer had his "mate" look at it and read the fault code with his "phone" amazing things phones.They put new coil on but still had misfire,we have got it in today read all codes recorded then cleared and road tested,the light stays off but there is a misfire, then after about 5 min light on and flashing, read codes and just get P0300 P0301 random misfire and cyl 1 misfire, we swaped coils over changed plugs and still the same, checked wiring, checked for air leaks fuel looks ok , but stuck now has any one any ideas thanks Steve

Hi Steve,

Is this vehicle only running on 3 cylinders or is it actually misfiring? Does the misfire occur across the whole rev range? Is it possible to scope the HT or ECU signal on cyl 1? I sometimes attach plug leads to the coilpacks and use a timing gun to verify misfires. Remember also the misfire could be due to the engine or injector on cyl 1. Compression check and exhaust emissions can also give you a pointer.

How did you test for air leaks ?

Fuel looks OK ! not sure what is meant to say.

Compression test, cylinder leakage, emission,s etc.

Misfire at idle or at all revs etc.

Hi all got car coming back on tuesday, fuel check on live data, air leak smoke pro, will check others then eg emissions

running on proper 98 ron fuel or supermarket cheap 95 ron ?

HStephen, do you know if teh coil is switch and spark firing? Im sure these had issues with the coil going down and taking driver in ecu as well.

hi seem to remember seeing something about a modified coil to deal with missfire and rough running might be worth checking AD

Have checked coil customer had put new coil on but we also changed coil over to see if we could move the misfire, have checked coil externaly for spark and switching all ok, now going to look on fuel side, cant see any wiring for the injectors at the mo.
