VW Lupo AUC 2001 - Non start, multiple faults, starts on fault clearing #

Year of Manufacture *: 51 plate
Engine Size and Code *: AUC
( Optional ) Scanner Used: VAG-COM
( Optional) Fault Codes: P1116, P1325, P0261, P0267, P0270 P0264, P1117, P

Non start. Multiple faults. Of particular interest were P0261, P0267, P0264 and P0270. These describe "Injector short to ground" (All four injectors)

(The others relate to Lambda sensor issues and an implausable CPS)

The car was a non-starter. I could find no obvious cause for the faults on initial visual inspection so I clearerd them in order to see what might come back. With faults cleard car started and ran fine with no return of fault codes apart from P1116 (Lambda sensor heater open circuit) which I suspect is valid but not directly related to the non start.

I am guessing that the non start was as a result of the ECU going into a "safe" condition to prevent starting if serious faults are detected. Clearing them brought it out of the "Safe" mode.

Now I have checked the web and others seem to have had similar issues but I have not found any explanations/resolutions.

Anybody else come across this?? Any suggestions??

We know it was a non start but what were the circumstances or history before this??

Implausable cps not an issue to worry about??
Poor signal will cause non start too.

Injector short to ground? could someone have tried jump leads on it?

What im thinking is probably something like a flat battery or jump start could have caused all these codes. I would expect the o2 heater circuit will be o2 sensor but as you say not a cause of the issue you had.

Hi

All your faults being short to ground would indicate a supply voltage problem.
Change the main fuel pump relay (8 pin unit) located in relay block above driver's knee.

Seems like a good sugestion. Have rechecked wiring diagram and note that the relay is a common supply to both lambda sensor heaters as well as the injectors. Will try this after the weekend and let you know what happens.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have a 2004 1.4 golf coming back in next week, retrieved these codes today-
16645 injector cylinder 1-N30 short with ground P0261 intermittent.
16651 injector cylinder 3-N32 short with ground P0267 intermittent.
16654 injector cylinder 4-N33 short with ground P0270 intermittent.
16648 injector cylinder 2-N31 short with ground P0264 intermittent.
17833 EVAP purge valve-N80 short to ground P1425 intermittent.
17525 O2 sensor heating circuit bank 1 sensor 2 short to ground P1117.
16517 O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 response too slow P0133.
16523 O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 response too response too slow P0139.
History - starts ok when cold, sometimes won't start when hot. Was thinking a wire or sensor shorted to earth but the above relay suggestion seems to make sense (low voltage not short to ground) & I've had problems with solder joints on these relays before.

Had this golf back in today & as suggested it was the relay (no.409 if it helps someone) with the cover off I could see a tiny spark when I pressed on the fractured solder joint & I could replicate the same fault codes.
