Ford Fiesta 1.25 2009 - Code P2176 Throttle not learned - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2009
Engine Size and Code *: 1250

Fault code stored after battery removed P2176 Throttle idle setting not learned and no clearing facilities on scan tools. does anyone know how to carry out basic setting please?

Hi John,

I think you should be looking for reset KAM on your scantool, it may not be listed as throttle body basic setting.

Throttle body is self learning, adaption and spring tension test is carried out everytime the ignition is switched off and can take a minute.
check with ignition on then off, throttle plate should move as it adapts so you should see and hear.
Try cleaning and update software first, if still persists it will need a new throttle body.

Thanks both - no KAM reset on either DEC Superscan or Delphi scan tools available on this control system, tried igniton on / off and no operation of throttle body - position sensors working ok according to live data when plate moved with finger. There is some history with this car involving deep water( just not sure how deep)!

Did you wait enough time for it actuate after ignition off, can take a minute.

Also have you scoped the throttle body to see if it is being driven during this stage?

Does it still run?

Pin 2 at the ETB is the voltage to drive the throttle plate motor, with pin 1 being the return.

Make sure the PCM is allowing its power latch following key off, so the ETB has the voltage to drive / learn the position.

Checked wiring from control unit to throttle body and condition of throttle body against autodata spec's. Unit seemed to work intermittently.
Engine control unit replaced due to suspect water contamination - all ok
