I have this bmw in at the moment, it has had a bit of damage on the osf under the spoiler.
The customer says that ever since he done it it is telling him the outside temp on the dash is 50 degrees farenhieght or -40.
I inspected the damage and found a 2 pin plug loose with the retaining clip missing. I have fitted a new sensor on this but it is making no difference. I had to carve one of the grooves of the plug to make it fit im wondering if this is the wrong plug? I cant find anything else that could be it. Could anyone tell me if this is the location(at the os spoiler next to the fog light. regards Brad
If my memory is correct, the temp sensor wires follow the wiring down the left side of inner wing,to a 2 pin plug, with the wire colours blue/brown and blue/purple.Looks like you may have the wrong plug.

thanks Andy I thought about it last night,
The new sensor is a genuine one, i had to modify it to make it fit,??
Altho there is a fog light present and still an extra wire near it and the spoiler is missing about a 6"x 8" piece of undershield where you would expect the ambient sensor and also the clip retainer is missing from what looks like the ambient sensor plug. And also the problem occored when this part was broken. Could this all be a coincedence???
I looked again all around the inside of the grill and spoiler, then i found it!! It is moulded into the undershield below the fog light on the near side. I traced back the wires and found a broken wire. Fixed this and all is good!!
I was looking past where it was expecting it to be internal on the inner spoiler/grill not actually external undernieth the spoiler.
