VW Golf 2.0 GTi 2005 - Whistling noise on idle - Fixed #

( Optional ) Scanner Used: KTS/ SNAP-ON

Hi

Noise on tick over like a bad air leak perfect emissions all ok fault code relates to lean idle on tick over sprayed carb cleaner around every sensor /pipe and manifold no split pipes smoke tested !! any ideas I know its hard to diagnose without hearing it but just wondered if there was problems with these

Hi John,

I presume it's a TFSI engine?, have you got a diagnostic smoke machine to check for external air leaks?.
If you post engine code, fault code/s, 4/5 gas readings someone maybe able to help.
It might be worth looking at the emission breather valve at the front of the head as these tend to give trouble 1st of all

As above: A bit more info in the post such as engine code, fault codes etc helps jog memories for old giffers like me.

If it's the breather valve on the top of the engine, removing the oil filler cap at idle or pulling the dipstick out will stop the noise, indicating the valve is at fault.

Modified breather valves have been introduced for this fault.

Hi john and jon thanks for the response have smoke tested and all ok the car has gone out for the weekend unfortunatley cleared the codes and cant remember it but it says lean mixture on idle I think the breather sounds like the fault as the noise carries on for a couple of seconds after you switch off will get it back in next week and let you know cheers john
