Mini Cooper 1.6 2007 - Rough idle and stalling, code 2B15 - Unresolved #

Engine Size and Code *: 1.6
( Optional) Fault Codes: 2B15

Hi, can anyone help me with this car, getting a fault code of 2B15 differential pressure, intake manifold, plausability, I have no idea what this means, so looking for some guidance of how and what to test.

Hi Chris

First impression, that description sound alot similar the the equivalent VAG code.

I would smoke the intake system for leaks and check the crankcase breather... And check the plausibility of the map sensor

Is there alot of vacuum when you remove the oil cap?

Hi James,

Done a smoke test and found no leaks, breather is part of rocker cover so not easy to test, there is a dribble of oil coming through but not sure if it's normal. there is vacuum in the crankcase but I believe there should be, that's how it's designed.
Just not sure of the map sensor, it only measures 970 with ignition on and 950 at idle wheras ambient pressure was just over 1000. Am I right in thinking there is no vacuum in the manifold at idle on these engines?

Ahhh yes Chris I think you are correct...
I believe this is the same engine as the pug/cit with variable valve lift.

The throttle flap will remain open under normal operating conditions and the ecu will control the valve lift between 3mm and 9mm under different load conditions.

I think I have got some data and info on this engine at home... I m just wrestling with a Zafira at the min but when I get home ill have a look for you mate.

I believe the engine is designed to have a slight vacuum in the crankcase too.
It's just on VAG with a the throttle flap working in a 'normal' way.... when the breather diaphram splits you have to use both hands to pull the oil cap off.

I don't want to lead you down the wrong path but just a thought for now... could you cause a fault
so that the ECU resorted back to 'normal operation' ie, closing the throttle flap and setting the valves to the maximum lift and see how much vac is in the crank case then?

I believe when the vehicle operates in variable valve lift mode there will be -50mbar vac in the intake.

Ill check for sure later.

The valve lift is between 0.3mm at idle to 9.5mm at higher RPM/load with an engine starting valve lift of 1.7mm.

Where on a convential engine 'Live data' reading will as you know produce reading around 300mbar

On this engine at idle with a valve lift of 0.3mm and the throttle almost fully open you should get a 'live data' reading of 950mbar as you have.

I believe this 50mbar pressure difference across the throttle flap is needed to encourage EVAP and as you stated crankcase recirc.

Also I have some notes I have written for myself stressing that the 50mbar pressure drop across the throttle is closely monitored and any higher will set a fault code.

As I said earlier I do not want to lead you down the wrong path and I haven't had time to research your fault code but the description sounds something similar to what I have tried to describes above?

Hi Chris,

As Mark says there is a software update for this fault plus the map sensor sits at the bottom of the inlet manifold remove and clean or prob better replace it.

Bit of a trek but if you need the SW update I can do it FOC if you're stuck
