BMW 116i N45T 2007 - Non start after chain replacement / overheating - Fixed #
Posted by Promis Christodoulou on August 6, 2013, 5:04 pm this one came in to the workshop after being sold by a trader, the vehicle has 60k on the clock with fsh. the customer took the vehicle and drove about 100 miles before overheating and developing a miss-fire and loud rattle from the engine. it was towed to us where it was evident the chain was rattling, ( ran loud and rough) we hired a locking tool we check timing and it was out so we replaced the timing chain (fai international). on trying to start we get no attempt to fire, except for a popping through the inlet (mild misfire like its firing on the wrong stroke)compression is good at 12.5 bar the timing has been checked and set at least 4 times, the inlet vanos was also changed as the original has some play. plugs get wet and the coils are firing. no codes. all temp sensors checked and i'm out of ideas, cylinders pressure checked by putting compressed air down each cylinder and listening for blow back through the manifold. my only concern is after cranking over by hand the timing tool to set the sensors plates on the front of the engine will not fit without a struggle. the tool im using is a sealey vse5981...... really need some suggestions chaps.
