Landrover Freelander 1.8 K 2001 - Injectors not firing - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Size and Code *: 1800 k
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Solus

Injectors not being switched. Good spark and will start if fed fuel. Both crank and cam sensors checked and both good. Checked the earths at the ecu and body. Getting feed to injectors and checked the injector return wires to ecu. Again all good. Before I send ecu away for testing can anyone advise me of any more tests I can do. Thanks for reading. There was one code. No cam signal. Erased and not come back, although this should still start without the sensor being connected.

Cheers Mark. I checked all data such as it was with the solus no fuel delivery from injectors Ecu knows it's cranking. Not load tested feeds but will do. History. Came out one morning and non start. I am not the first to have a look. There is new cam and crank sensors and the wiring plug at manifold all pin pricks.

What does the tps show.Try disconnecting it.

Hi,
Had old s reg 1.8 k series in over week, wouldn't Start after we did some minor repairs. Turned out to be fuel shut off under bonnet,.

Hello Les, assuming you have fuel pressure, you could try disconnecting all injectors & then see if you have a pulse as a shorted injector can shut down the driver

Shut off ok. Will try and disconnect injectors.

Has some one been playing with the camshaft pulleys and put them on incorrectly.?

I think on this engine type you can connext up tps and cmp sensor plugs either way round as I did this years ago after replacing an engine on a rover 75 that also needed a wiring loom repair due to fire damage.

can't remember if it logged codes or not.

Les I was thinking about the cam sensor code.

Which is where the sequential injection comes from.

If the ECU cant see a cam signal does it revert to

simultaneous injection, or does it not fire the

injecters.

Can you scope cam V crank at the ECU and

post up the waveform.

Hi Alan . The injectors will still fire if the cam sensor is disconnected Hope to get back to it today. Thanks for all your input.

Load tested wire to injectors. Checked ecu earths and return wires from injectors to ecu. Everything in order to fire injectors so I will put to customer that I would like to get ecu checked out. I will keep you informed. Alan, I disconnected all injectors and still no pulse. Lee, the terminals are right way round. Thanks for your input.

Being a 2001 Model year it should be MEMS 3 and EWS.

It seems to me you have over looked the most plausible reason. I would say the MEMS unit is still in a immobilised state. (injection is blocked)

You will need T4 or Autologic to perform the immobiliser relearn function first.

EWS is a BMW system and can be prone to loosing sycn with the MEMS unit. (check battery voltage during cranking)

Synchronize with engine management system This function causes the immobiliser ECU to send out repeated codes so that when used in conjunction with the LEARN feature on the engine management ECU, that it can synchronise itself to the EWS 3D immobiliser.

The function should be used only after setting the engine management ECU in learning mode.
The synchronization procedure is done in three steps that should take place in one ignition cycling.

Put the engine management in learning mode: This function is to be found in the engine management START SYNCHRONIZATION WITH IMMOBILISER ECU. The function will set the ECU into learning mode.

Once you've been prompted that the engine management is in learning mode, navigate to the immobiliser for step 2.

Send code from immobiliser ECU: This function is to be found in the immobiliser. This function will send codes to be learned.

Once you've been prompted that the immobiliser sent the code successfully, navigate back to the engine management for step 3.

Take the engine management out of learning mode: This function is to be found in the engine management END SYNCHRONIZATION WITH IMMOBILISER ECU. The function will end the learning mode, leaving the ECU in normal mode

Hi Darren. Grateful for your input. Sounds good. If in immobiliser state would this not throw up a code or light on dash? To be honest in the last 10 years I have only had one faulty ecu so I am trying to check all bases before sending this to be checked.

Hi all. This turned out to be a fault in the main ecu. This was replaced and now starting ok. Can't take credit for this as I farmed out to the dealer.
