Year of Manufacture *: 2008 (58) Engine Size and Code *: 1.6 turbo
Original customer fault description:- Flat performance, low on power. Diagnosis gave:- U0404 Gear information fault, coherence. P0171 Mixture regulation, too weak. P2237 Upstream oxygen sensor, charge resistance open circuit. P2192 Mixture regulation, too rich. P2603 Electric coolant pump control open circuit. I replaced the lambda sensor and cleared the code memory and the engine runs much better. However when revved the engine sounds like its trying to knock its top end to bits. I suspect a problem with the variable valve timing mechanism. I believe this engine has a variation of BMWs valvetronic on it. Does any one know if this engine is prone to problems in this area? As an electrician/diagnostician I would not go this far into the engine but I would like to be able to advise my customer, particularly if there are any recalls for this problem. Would have been nice if the customer had at least mentioned the noise, I would have pointed them straight to the dealer. Shaun

Shaun , please check the friction wheel on the back of the aux belt , this drives the water pump & some are motorized P2603? this system is dog s**t & can rattle really badly Oh and they also are prone to timing chain/tension er issues hth keith
