Vauxhall Insignia 1.8 A18XER 2009 - Engine is harsh and noisy - Fixed #

Hi

Does any one know if these engines suffer with vvt problems on a hard drive the engine is very harsh and noisy,as you pull up and let it idle the noise goes. its gutless really for a 1.8 ive cleaned out the solenoids as per a bulletin i found but still the same

I have one of these coming in in early June, they are as gutless as a gutless thing, immeidiate thought was a Forte engine flush and oil change

i know tony very sluggish indeed,it keeps coming back with a code for the exhaust cam but at the moment there are no codes as its been else were and had codes cleared,the guys left it with me for a week to see if i can suss it out,went out last night for long drive and when returned to workshop engine was very harsh and rattly but before i could get bonnet up the noise stopped,make me think a faulty vvt.

May be worth confirming oil pressure is good at higher RPM, possible restricted oil pick up causing cavitation ?

May be an idea to swap solenoids and see if symptoms change.

I dont know about the Insignia, but I have done a few 1800 Astras now, but htese had noisy pulleys all the time, especially from cold, and ont was right throughout the rev range.

A good forte flushing, clean the solonoid filters, new pulleys (dont bother with just one), cam belt kit with new tensioner bolts. and Forte clean and protect with the fresh oil, and reduced interval oil changes in the future.

There is a field remedy on these solenoids, they say to remove the filters, they were fitted during production for the initial run in, or words to that effect.

Hi

I decided to change the solenoids first and it has fixed the problem, the car goes a lot better now and no rattling,one word of warning though the cam cover front bolts seem to rust up and 2 snapped off when i replaced the cam belt,so if pricing up a belt replacement add time for this
