Ford Focus C MAX 1.8 Q7DA 2007 - Poor idle and won't rev up, codes P2110, P0606 & P0607 - Fixed #

Engine Size and Code *: 1.8 q7da
( Optional ) Scanner Used: autocom / maxidas
( Optional) Fault Codes: p2110, p0605. p0607

Hi,

Ford focus c max 1.8 petrol, customer came in with poor idle and would not rev out.Also pats light flashing quickly intermittently, causing no crank.Speed limiter warning message on dash.
Battery now changed as it had a dead cell.

Checked Pcm codes, p2110 throttle actuator - forced limit.

p0605 pcm rom error, p0607 control module performance,p2107 throttle actuator module processor.No pats codes.

Various can codes on other systems.

Checked pedal voltages, no1 0.3 - 3 volts
no2 0.7 - 6.9 v (seems high), smoke tested intake and ok.reference voltages to throttle motor ok , but ecu does not drive throttle flap.
If we carefully operate flap ecu sees voltages on live data and idles ok.
removed / cleaned ecu earths under air filter, ecu connections look ok.

my next step is to get ecu software done but local dealer cant do it for 2 weeks

Ford technical not a great help, any furthur tests ? or should i send ecu off for testing.

any thoughts appreciated.

with various CAN codes in other modules, i would check the CAN and VAN network wave forms out as a first step , but you will need a scope to do this.
If the net work is breaking down some where, crazy stuff happens

I have got a picoscope, I will try and test.

Only got a basic understanding of networks, but I will have a go.

Next training course I think.

When the engine does not crank,and the pats light flashes,do you lose the digital mileage display to show -----. ?

Yes, once I scroll past the engine system fault message on the digital display, the speedo does show ---- . when the pats light is flashing quickly. Also just noticed flash code 16 from pats light when started, fault occurs with both keys.

The can main codes are U1900

I would say you are looking at a can fault on the bus network or an internal fault on the instrument cluster.When the fault occurs,give the top of the dash a good bang,just above the speedo pod.If this resumes the system,then I would think there is an internal fault in the pod.These are commonly fixable.May also be a good idea to check the large multi pin connector (lear type)with fold-over lock down bar,located behind the glove box,clipped to the wheel arch,behind the sound insulation.Can wiring to the dash runs through this.

Update,
Ive checked wiring and seems ok. So I sent off the cluster to Ac tronics.
They said they found a fault with the cluster, can problem's.

So I fitted cluster yesterday, and the car is
still the same.

I had another 2007 focus in. So I compared can signals at 16 pin connector. I will try and post signals. They are very different.

The can signals on the faulty car do not change with the cluster disconnected.

Top images are the faulty car,
Bottom 2 images are a good car,

I will contact ac Tuesday, they didn't have the keys so not sure if they could test the cluster fully?

although the images between the 2 cars look different, they are both good waveforms.

have a look at the VAN network , you may find that this is where your problem is , same test just different pin connections at the DLC socket, look up a wiring diagram for what pins. i think its 3 and 11 but ?????? i have a pico break out box which makes it easy , it has nice flashing lights and its got numbers and every thing..

i had a ford c max in a few weeks ago, with weird stuff going on and it took about 15 to 20 mins for the problem to appear and the VAN network was going bad , so keep your scope connected for a while and give it time for the gremlins to come out to play.

Thanks for the reply.

I spoke to Ac Tuesday, and as requested I sent off cluster, ecu, tranceiver and keys.

They are unable to fix.

So they have sent it all off to there head office in Holland !

Car now fixed,
Ecu had to be replaced, and now runs fine.
