Mercedes CLK230 Kompressor 2.3 M111.975 1999 - Cold starting issue - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 1999
Engine Size and Code *: 2300, M111.975

I have an issue that when you try and start the car from cold it cuts out straight away and keeps doing this but eventually it keeps running but very rough (bit like a misfire)and improves as it warms up. open throttle and it cuts out.

Was running ok but now it has been stood it has got worse and unable to drive even when hot.

Only fault code occasionally is P1570 Immobiliser, igntion seems ok, fuel pressure ok, all live data looks ok (AMM,IAT,CHT etc).

Valve timing has been double checked as it had head gasket repair just over a month ago and has been running fine ever since up to now.

Crank sensor replaced by customer and ive scoped camshaft sensor - both seem ok.

Has anyone had any similar issues as there does not seem any clues to proceed ?

Looked at one of these a few weeks ago with similar issues.Customer said it was ok until the gearbox was repaired.Fault codes for multiple misfires etc.Replaced Maf sensor and good running and performance restored.

Thanks for that, sounds similar, I've never had misfire fault odes but maybe never run long enough. Did try running it with MAF disconnected and made no change.

Still having issues with this car tried scoping MAF and signal, when idle is 1.7v with 1.5v at idle - seems ok, unable to rev it up due to fault. Live data translates this to 16kg/h.

Found sticking variable valve timing actuator, freed off but no different.

Scoped injectors and found opening times of 3.19ms at start up creeping up to 6ms after a short while (assuming it's trying to correct itself, otherwise cannot explain why this would happen.

Went to it yesterday, started and ran fine, would not rev up but otherwise ok - thought right , lets scope some sensors etc, stopped it and re-started and back to normal rough running

Seems very odd how a restart can either fix or worsen the fault - this happens regularly but you still cannot rev it up.

I'm beginning to think we may still have a timing issue but cannot catch it ok to scope cam / crank !

Customer replaced air mass meter after finding one at the right price and it fixed the issue.

Re-checked air mass signal to find 0.91 (KOEO), 1.3 (Idle), 4.1 (WOT).
