Mini Cooper S N14B16 2007 - Engine oil leak #

Year of Manufacture: 2007
Engine Size and Code: 1.6 - N14B16

Major engine oil leakage that is bad to see where it is appearing from!

It leaks from under the oil filter housing & cannot see anything as to pin point!

It leak during warm up & when vehicle has been run for 30 mins. or more the leak seems to subside to a slight weep!

If i strip down everything to remove the oil filter housing I cannot run the engine to test for leaks from other areas!

It could be the head gasket but I fear strip down would not confirm this.

Has anyone repaired one of these before? I an in a dilemma

The 2009 version doesn't have anything below it other than the sump, is it just the housing or plastic filter cover leaking?

Yep!

I agree there, but caveat time........!

What if? (head gasket above?) Can't run it at that stage to find out!

Also, would you replace the entire oil filter housing / cooler assembly?

I had these kind of jobs before & turned out to be Russian Roulette

A case of who pays for time & parts only for further disappointment!

Use a borescope and explain/show your customer how difficult these are to see.

Add U/V dye to the oil, run it up for a considerable time, and strip down - U/V never lies....

When you said under the oil filter housing I presumed you meant below, not behind it.
I've replaced several cam cover gaskets, and 1 cam cover for leaks, never an oil housing/cooler though.....

"Caveat time" = It's you're job, only YOU can make those decisions.
