AN OLD FASHIONED THANKSGIVING DAY
by Gene Minix
As I sit here by the fireplace today
My mind drifts back to a long time ago.
To an old fashioned Thanksgiving Day
That as I child I did know.
Where family and friends all gathered together
On that very special day.
And holding hands around the big table
Papa would bow his head and pray.
The big Tom Turkey in the middle
Of a table so richly spread.
With the children at the foot
And Grandpa at the head.
When the meal was all finished
The children would go out to play.
And the grownups would gather around
The fireplace and "fellowship" away.
How fast the hours would pass
And soon everyone was on their way.
Mama wiped tears of joy and hugged everyone
On this very special and wonderful day.
When everyone was gone, we'd hear Mama say,
"Come on in, children. Soon it will be time for bed".
And Papa would take down the Bible
And we all listened as he read.
And we'd all say a prayer
And give thanks to God above.
And there were hugs and there were kisses
In a home filled with love.
Mama and Papa would relax by fire bright
And recall the memories of the day.
And we kids were off to bed in holiday glee
Knowing Christmas time was heading our way.

SING PRAISES TO THE LORD
by Gene Minix
Sing praises to the Lord
On this Thanksgiving Day.
Praises to the Lord for the blessings
He sends our way.
Thanks to the Father.
Thanks to the Son.
Thanks to the Holy Spirit
For all they have done.
Thanks for our salvation.
For leading the way.
Thanks to God above.
Thanks today and every day.
