Re: You can believe Dan or a stranger
Why can't we believe both? I ask because I have another friend (who I've known for 30 years) who works in a London hospital who has outlined several of the same issues as was in the above letter recently too (particularly the empty hospital syndrome and how that relates to people needing elective surgeries and not getting them). I'd suggest that it's possible many hospitals have experienced similar and cases perhaps have been funnelled into locations like dans. Easier to do with fewer hospitals and a and e; many regions across the country filter to hospitals more than 30 miles away nowadays. We can only know for certain our own experiences, so dans (always at the end of the line it seems) might not match others in different locations.
Without a hundred percent transparency across all hospitals and into the public realm we are all relying on snippets of anecdotal evidence (particularly with the issue of ..essentially gag orders), but I feel I can believe my friends observations as much as those of dans. I'm sure I'm not the only one who knows more than one nhs worker here. The above letter read exactly like the way a person who loves their job but hates the operation would write. It sounded genuine.
And I don't think Dan has said anything to effect that it's been well managed! I think his main contention is that of course people have been dying as a result of contracting covid (which seems to be when he reacts to an article).
