Both are public school from upper middle class backgrounds, Le Carre attended Oxford and taught at Millfield and Eton. While Boyd attended Gordonstoun, along side Prince Charles, and went onto to Glasgow and later Oxford before teaching at Oxford. Both are from wealthy backgrounds and both are wealthy in their own right.
Again there should be no surprises about them.
