The protesters against HS2 are some of the bravest people around, and right in the vanguard of the campaign to preserve Britain's precious natural heritage.

The government is taking advantage of people's attention being diverted to tackling the virus in order to press ahead - using thugs where necessary - with the wilful destruction of ancient forest and irreplaceable woodland for a project of marginal benefit which may well come to be seen as a white elephant.
